Question

A 3-year-old boy, at first, complained of pain when swallowing, and noticed that he had more severe coughing and a low fever. How should one treat a child’s tonsillitis when they are crying and restless?

Answer

For treatment, it is first recommended to provide symptomatic anti-inflammatory medication based on the child’s symptoms. While taking the medication, some regional treatments can be conducted, such as rinsing or direct application of medication, to consolidate the efficacy. If the child experiences severe throat pain, it is suggested to give some painkillers as needed. If there is a fever, choose a cooling method based on the body temperature; for temperatures below 38.5 degrees Celsius, physical cooling can be used, while oral fever-reducing medication is recommended for temperatures above 38.5 degrees Celsius. In cases of recurrent acute severe episodes or complications, it is advised to perform tonsillectomy after the acute inflammation subsides in two weeks. During this period, ensure the child gets plenty of rest and consumes more vegetables and fruits.
