When a child has a mild case of strabismus, older children can usually correct this issue. Generally, children around 5 to 6 years old are capable of doing so. For such young children, my knowledge is limited. If the child’s strabismus is caused by internal skin covering, the problem may become less noticeable as the child grows. However, if the degree of esotropia is too obvious, cosmetic surgery may need to be considered. Overall, the symptoms of strabismus can be relieved.

For children with strabismus symptoms, especially those of an older age, it is recommended to undergo a detailed ophthalmological examination to determine the extent and degree of strabismus, in order to develop conservative or surgical treatment plans. Mild strabismus may be treated conservatively with glasses, while severe cases may require surgery.
