Does Tonsillitis Lead to an Increase in White Blood Cell Count?

With tonsillitis and a low-grade fever, after 4 days of intravenous fluid therapy, the white blood cell count still reached 18,000, up from 32,000 before treatment. The medication administered was ceftriaxone. I want to know why, after 4 days of treatment, the white blood cell count hasn’t exceeded the normal range, and whether this might lead to other diseases.
