Solutions to Baby’s Sudden Outbursts of Crying

A baby suddenly bursts into a fit of crying, with a yellowish face, which might be due to either physiological crying or pathological crying. Physiological crying is caused by hunger, overheating or cooling, being startled, or having a nightmare. In such cases, parents need only to comfort the baby. Pathological crying may be caused by pain or discomfort from conditions like fever, eczema, rickets, oral ulcers, worm infections, or intussusception. When a baby cries suddenly at night, consider physiological causes first, such as hunger or a need for a diaper change, and then consider pathological factors. Seek medical attention if necessary.
