Why Is My Baby’s Stool Green?

The color of a baby’s stool is related to the time food spends in the intestines and bile. When milk moves quickly through a baby’s intestines and is excreted, the stool is yellow. As the intestinal function strengthens, milk stays in the intestines longer, and the stool gradually turns green, becoming brown when excreted last. Therefore, if a baby’s diet and sleep are normal and there are no abnormalities in tests, green stool usually does not require excessive concern.
