Question
How can I determine if a 20-day-old newborn has gas? When I gently press on their belly, it’s a bit firm yet soft, is that normal? The baby was fine before, but today they’re not sleeping for their afternoon nap. They usually sleep soundly during the day and won’t wake up when called, but today it’s unclear why. And they always want to eat, crying if not fed. Sometimes they breastfeed, and occasionally I give them two bottles of formula, which they have milk curds with. In the afternoon, there was a bit of loose stool, but the stool from last night to this morning was normal.
Answer
Dear inquirer, based on the information you provided, it may be due to insufficient breast milk, causing the baby not to be fully fed. I suggest ensuring that the baby is well-fed. If the belly feels soft when gently pressed, then it is not bloated. Additionally, please note that keeping the baby’s abdomen warm is important. This is my suggestion on how to determine if a newborn has gas?
