Question

How should pediatric vitiligo be treated?

Answer

The treatment of this condition is difficult, with a lengthy course and low chances of recovery. Although there are many treatment methods and drug types available, there is no effective cure. The aim of treatment is to restore the ability of regional abnormal melanocytes to produce melanin or stimulate melanocyte formation to promote development and regeneration, thus producing more melanin; to inhibit the progression of the disease, preventing further expansion of skin lesions; and to lighten the pigmented areas around the lesions, making the edges blurred and difficult to distinguish. Currently, a combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, along with regional and holistic treatment methods, is commonly adopted. It is recommended that patients undergo thorough examination before symptomatic treatment to achieve the expected therapeutic effects.
