Question

A 4-year-old boy is experiencing a sore throat and hoarseness, along with a persistent fever. How should pediatric tonsillitis with red swelling be treated for optimal effectiveness?

Answer

In treatment, it is generally recommended to follow the doctor’s instructions to give the child symptomatic anti-inflammatory medication. Regional rinsing or spraying, or direct injection of symptomatic medication into the tonsils can also be considered, as these treatment methods are very effective. If the child primarily has a sore throat, painkillers can be given to alleviate the symptoms. If the child has a fever, cooling methods should be chosen based on the body temperature: if the temperature is below 38.5 degrees Celsius, physical cooling methods can be used; if the temperature is above 38.5 degrees Celsius, oral fever-reducing medication can be taken. If the drug treatment is ineffective and recurrent, surgical treatment is recommended. During treatment, it is also important to maintain good dietary hygiene and ensure that the child has enough rest time.
