Question

What are the clinical symptoms of pediatric tonsillitis?

Answer

Pediatric tonsillitis has been one of the more prevalent pediatric diseases in the past two years. The primary symptom is usually a sore throat, which can sometimes spread to the ear. Children may also experience fever, which could be low-grade or as high as 39-40 degrees Celsius. Accompanying the fever are chills and headaches. Most children feel weak all over. Additionally, due to the diffuse congestion of the pharyngeal mucosa, the tonsils can be visibly enlarged. There may also be severe complications, such as nephritis and sepsis, which can directly threaten life. If a child’s condition continues to worsen, it is still advisable for parents not to delay and to take their children for treatment as soon as possible.
