Question

Dear Baby, currently 2 years old, just started, a bit sore in the throat, noticed, coughing more severely, and it seems like a low-grade fever has never gone away. What common symptoms might occur if the child has tonsillitis?

Answer

When a child develops tonsillitis, they may first feel soreness in the throat, which may then extend to the ears and even lead to otitis media. Some children may exhibit varying degrees of fever, with low-grade fever being observable and high-grade fever requiring immediate medical attention. Accompanying high fever may include chills, fatigue, and headaches. Additionally, under conditions of tonsillar congestion, the tonsils can be observed as red and swollen. Children with severe cases may also develop complications such as acute glomerulonephritis, acute rheumatic arthritis, and rheumatic endocarditis. It is recommended that parents take their child to the doctor as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary harm due to worsening of the condition.
