Question

Why does a baby in the postpartum period seem to be suffocating when they choke milk out of their nose?

Answer

Try to hold the baby upright while feeding, positioning the baby’s body at an angle of about 45 degrees. This allows the milk in the stomach to naturally flow into the small intestine, reducing the chance of vomiting compared to feeding the baby lying flat. After the baby finishes feeding, stand up and pat their back until they burp.
