Question
A 22-day-old male infant suddenly developed a fever. A CT scan revealed intraventricular hemorrhage, accompanied by a low fever of 37.2 to 37.9 degrees.
Answer
In addition to timely treatment of primary and secondary injuries, ventricular drainage surgery may be performed, or the ventricle can be opened to remove blood clots causing ventricular obstruction after clearing intracranial hematoma and crushed brain tissue. Typically, small amounts of intraventricular hemorrhage can be absorbed spontaneously, and even small blood clots can liquefy within about 10 days. Therefore, repeated lumbar punctures to drain the bloody cerebrospinal fluid can transform the cerebrospinal fluid into a liquid state.
