Question
Can a five-month-old baby develop a fever after being scared?
Answer
For a five-month-old baby, being scared in itself does not directly lead to a fever. However, the baby may experience a rise in body temperature due to emotional tension or insufficient sleep at night after being scared. If you suspect that your baby has a fever due to the scare, it is recommended that you adopt the following physical cooling methods:
- Use a gentle alcohol sponge bath, mixing alcohol with water at a ratio of 25% to 50% and wiping the baby’s armpits, elbows, and knees.
- Cold Compress: Place damp cold towels on the baby’s forehead, wrist, and lower legs, while covering the rest of the body with clothing to maintain body temperature balance. Please note that if the baby’s fever exceeds 38.5°C or is accompanied by other symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, restlessness, or poor spirits, you should take the baby to the doctor immediately. Avoid giving the baby any medication, including fever-reducing drugs, before the doctor’s diagnosis.
