Adenoidectomy can be performed simultaneously with tonsillectomy or as a standalone procedure. However, surgery may damage the soft palate, causing paralysis, or lead to obstruction of the eustachian tube and secondary secretory otitis media. It may also damage the pharyngeal wall, resulting in excessive scarring and dryness in the throat.
