Question
A 9-year-old boy, in elementary school, reported a sore throat at first, and it was noticed that swallowing seemed a bit difficult. Additionally, he’s been a bit feverish. What symptoms might appear if a baby or young child suffers from tonsillitis?
Answer
When tonsillitis occurs, most children will experience a sore throat and may also have ear pain. Some children may exhibit varying degrees of fever. If the fever is low, it can be observed at home; however, if the fever is high, medical attention is required. Some children may also experience headaches and other discomforts, with severe cases leading to pain all over the body, chills, and fatigue. Additionally, the tonsils typically become red and swollen and are usually larger than usual. If not promptly addressed, complications such as rheumatism (rheumatism), nephritis (nephritis), and nsepsis (sepsis) may occur. Therefore, it is recommended that if the parent indeed observes the above symptoms, they should take their child to a doctor for timely treatment.
