Question
Does the baby’s transverse position in the womb affect anything?
Answer
An incorrect presentation found before the 7th month of pregnancy typically requires only increased observation. Because before 30 weeks of gestation, the fetus is relatively small compared to the uterus, and there is more amniotic fluid, allowing for movement and self-correction of the position. Most babies are able to naturally turn into a “head-first” position after 30 weeks. However, generally speaking, if the fetus remains in an incorrect presentation from 30 to 34 weeks of gestation, correction is needed.
