Question

How to physically cool a baby with a fever of 39.5°C?

Answer

Cold compresses and sponge baths can be used to help the baby cool down quickly. You can use a cold, damp towel to apply compresses to the forehead. Alternatively, you can wrap ice cubes in a waterproof plastic bag and then in a dry towel to apply to the head and neck; adding compresses to the armpits and groin will enhance the effect. You can also dilute 75% alcohol with water, then use a small towel soaked in the mixture to wipe the head, neck, armpits, chest and back, and limbs.
