Question
Does the baby’s lateral position in the womb affect anything?
Answer
An abnormal presentation discovered before the 7th month of pregnancy can usually be observed without intervention. Because before the 30th week of pregnancy, the fetus is relatively small compared to the uterus, and there is more amniotic fluid, allowing the fetus room to move and correct its position. Most fetuses are able to naturally turn into a “head-first” position after 30 weeks. However, generally speaking, if an abnormal presentation persists from 30 to 34 weeks of pregnancy, correction is necessary.
