The time it takes to recover after mydriasis depends on the type of mydriatic agent used. If tropicamide or dual star is used, vision usually returns within approximately 5 hours. However, if atropine, also known as slow mydriasis, is used, the recovery period is longer, generally around 7 to 10 days. Therefore, if a child needs to undergo a mydriasis vision examination, it’s best to schedule it during longer holidays like winter or summer vacation so as not to disrupt their reading or homework.
