Question
Under what circumstances does a child’s foreskin require circumcision?
Answer
If a child’s foreskin is too long, covering the glans completely in a flaccid state but can be flipped back to reveal the glans, and it cannot be fully exposed during an erection, this may increase the risk of balanitis. If the foreskin is not regularly cleaned, it may also cause harm to sexual partners, leading to vaginitis, cervicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and other conditions. More seriously, it may even increase the risk of cancer for women. Therefore, if adolescents have issues with phimosis or overly long foreskins, they should consider circumcision surgery early on. For foreskins that do not cause inflammation, regular cleaning of the foreskin can be sufficient without the need for surgery.
