Question
Does a newborn’s testicles typically descend into the scrotum automatically? If the testicles have not fully descended at birth, is immediate medication or surgical treatment necessary?
Answer
Generally, at birth, a newborn’s testicles should already be in the scrotum. However, due to delayed embryonic development, some babies may experience delayed descent of the testicles until 3 months to 1 year after birth. Therefore, if a newborn has an undescended testicle condition, there is no need to rush into using medication or surgery to try and reposition it. Patience is key, and there is hope that it will descend naturally.
