Question

Why does a 1-year-old baby develop red rashes on the face and body after having a cold and fever?

Answer

This condition may be caused by infantile roseola, a common disease in babies aged 6 to 18 months. It is characterized by a sudden fever of 39 to 40 degrees Celsius, but typically does not include other cold symptoms such as coughing or runny nose, and the stool does not become loose. Within 3 to 4 days after the fever, the baby’s chest and neck may show rose-colored spots with a red blush. This is a benign rash that usually does not require medication. Treatment can be managed by staying hydrated, getting plenty of rest, and reducing outdoor activities. For cooling purposes, it is recommended to use physical methods such as wiping the baby’s forehead and armpits with warm water.
