Question
How should newborns be sunbathed in summer to prevent or alleviate jaundice?
Answer
Newborn jaundice can be categorized as physiological or pathological. Generally, full-term infants’ physiological jaundice usually resolves naturally within 7 to 14 days after birth, while premature infants may take 2 to 3 weeks to clear. In most cases, no special treatment is needed as the baby’s jaundice will resolve on its own. However, if the jaundice is severe, blue light therapy may be required. There is currently no evidence to show that sunbathing can effectively prevent or treat newborn jaundice, so it is recommended that you closely monitor your baby’s jaundice condition and regularly take them to the hospital for check-ups to detect any issues early. If necessary, the doctor will provide appropriate treatment advice.
