Question
Hi, I’ve suddenly started experiencing paralysis on the right side of my body and difficulty speaking. After undergoing a CT scan at the hospital, I found out there’s brain edema and I’ve had a surgical biopsy. The results show the presence of a cyst. I’d like to ask, am I currently on medication, do I need another surgery? And how should I get rid of the worm?
Answer
Hi, based on your description, it is recommended that you undergo a brain MRI, as well as serum and cerebrospinal fluid tests including those for worm antigens and antibodies, and a cerebrospinal fluid cytology examination, with special attention to the count of eosinophils. If active brainworms are confirmed to be present, another round of anti-worm medication treatment should be initiated. Additionally, you should check for worm eggs in your and your family’s feces. If worm eggs are found, the entire family should undergo deworming treatment.
