Question

My son is 2 years old. Initially, he said it hurt to swallow, and I noticed his voice was a bit hoarse. Now, he has a high fever that won’t go down. How should we treat his tonsillitis pain for optimal effectiveness?

Answer

In clinical treatment of pediatric tonsillitis, antibiotics are primarily used. The choice of sensitive medication can be based on bacterial culture, with good results. Regional rinsing or spraying, as well as the injection of symptomatic medication into the tonsils, are also effective. If the child’s sore throat is severe, painkillers are recommended to alleviate symptoms. In case of fever, the method of cooling down should be chosen based on body temperature; below 38.5 degrees Celsius, physical cooling can be applied, while above 38.5 degrees Celsius, oral antipyretics can be taken. For children with recurrent inflammation, surgical treatment may be considered. Pay attention to a light diet during treatment and consume mainly liquid foods.
