Question
My child has hand, foot, and mouth disease and has a high fever that doesn’t go away. What should I do?
Answer
Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease is an infectious disease caused by enteroviruses, commonly occurring in children under the age of 5, and can cause blisters on the hands, feet, and mouth. In some cases, it can lead to complications such as myocarditis, pulmonary edema, and aseptic meningitis. It is recommended that you administer intravenous fluids, antiviral treatment such as ribavirin, and also consider administering vitamin C and B6. It is best to also administer immunoglobulins to boost the immune system and accelerate recovery. If your child has a fever, you can give them oral ibuprofen suspension and use physical methods to lower their temperature by wiping their body with warm water.
