Question
Hello Dr. Chen! We underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at Shanghai Children’s Medical Center on January 30, 2015, initially because our son experienced pain in his ankles below the feet after intense exercise, prompting us to seek medical attention. However, the MRI report indicated patchy shadows within the medullary cavity of the left distal femur, suggesting possible benign bone tumor changes, possibly not non-ossifying fibroma? (This was an unintentional finding.) The doctor recommended that we undergo surgery to remove the lesion. I inquired about my son’s ankle pain, and the doctor stated that it was unrelated to the femur changes and that the pain was due to calcium deficiency. If it is merely a calcium deficiency issue, we would not be concerned. Additionally, I would like to ask Dr. Chen if your Monday clinic requires an appointment? We have already purchased train tickets for Monday and are preparing to come over.
Answer
Please upload photos of the examination films, and then I will provide treatment recommendations. Regarding whether surgery is necessary, I suggest you bring your child over for a personal diagnosis.
