Question

Is the child’s spinal cord tethering and vertebral fissure situation severe?

Answer

The imaging shows a regular lumbar spine sequence, with partial non-fusion of the L5-S3 laminae, widening of the vertebral canal below L4, and an irregular tubular long T1 short T2 abnormal signal under the skin at L5, S1. The FS-T2WI shows high signal, suggesting communication with the vertebral canal. The vertebral cone shape is normal, reaching the level below L4, and the cauda equina nerve course is still good. Imaging diagnosis results: 1. Consistent with the MRI findings of low spinal cord, it is recommended to follow up and observe; 2. Partial non-fusion of L5-S3 laminae, consistent with the MRI findings of sacral fissure; 3. Abnormal skin signal under L5, S1, suggesting communication with the vertebral canal, it is recommended to follow up and observe.
