Question

During a physical examination on the 21st, my son’s fasting blood glucose level was found to be as high as 19.8 mmol/L. He is receiving insulin injections at Guiyang Children’s Hospital to control his blood sugar levels. The hospital’s prescribed dose is 4, 4, and 3 units before each meal, with a 3-unit injection of intermediate-acting insulin before bedtime. I would like to inquire about the selection of insulin injection sites and the rotation method.

Answer

Insulin can be injected in the upper arm, thigh, buttocks, and abdomen. Due to varying absorption rates in different areas, it is recommended to choose a fixed site such as the abdomen. The abdomen is a preferable location for injection because it offers a larger area for rotation and is less affected by movement, leading to more stable absorption. Injection sites should be rotated in order, in a straight line, with a spacing of 1 to 2 cm between each injection. Avoid repeating the same site within one month.
