Question

What Are Chromosomes?

Answer

Chromosomes are the primary carriers of genetic information, situated within the cell nucleus. Humans have 46 chromosomes in each cell, arranged in 23 pairs by size and shape. The first 22 pairs are called autosomes, shared by both males and females. The 23rd pair is a pair of sex chromosomes. Females have two X chromosomes, while males have one X and one Y chromosome. Sperm and egg cells carry genetic genes on their chromosomes, recording the genetic information passed down from parents to children. Similarly, when there is an abnormality in the sex chromosomes, it can lead to genetic disorders.
