Question

I am nearly six months pregnant and a check-up has revealed that my fetus has hydrocephalus with a fluid volume of 10mm. I am asking about the treatment and prognosis.

Answer

At around six months of pregnancy, the amount of cerebrospinal fluid in the fetus may temporarily exceed the circulation capacity of the ductal system, leading to mild hydrocephalus. Usually, this condition will disappear spontaneously as the fetus develops. A 10mm fluid volume is within the normal range and there is no need to worry excessively. It is recommended to have another check-up in a month. If the fluid volume decreases, it may be a physiological hydrocephalus and no special treatment is needed.
