Question

What projects are included in the prenatal screening for Down syndrome?

Answer

The Down syndrome test (Down screen) assesses the risk of the fetus having Down syndrome by analyzing the pregnant woman’s blood. If the results show a low risk, the probability of the fetus having Down syndrome is less than 1%. However, if the risk is high, amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling should be performed to determine whether the fetus has Down syndrome. If these tests come back normal, it can be confirmed that the fetus does not have Down syndrome.
