Strabismus is an abnormal eye movement resulting from an imbalance in the muscles that control the eyes. The random movement of a newborn’s eyes is normal, and they typically begin to move together within a few weeks after birth. If a baby’s eyes cannot move in the same direction—one up, one down—it may indicate strabismus.
