Question

My child has been diagnosed with strabismus since a few months old. How should it be handled?

Answer

Strabismus is a muscular movement abnormality caused by an imbalance in the eye muscles. It is normal for a newborn’s eyes to move randomly. Generally, within a few weeks after birth, the baby’s eyes will begin to coordinate their movements. If a child’s eyes cannot move in the same direction (for example, one up and one down), it may indicate strabismus.
