Question

The child showed no abnormalities at birth and appeared to be developing like other children of the same age, so we didn’t consider any diseases. However, it was discovered unexpectedly during a check-up for another condition that the child has congenital spina bifida and related malformations. I would like to inquire about the condition.

Answer

Concealed spina bifida is common in the lumbar sacral region, characterized by one or more incomplete vertebral plates without any contents protruding into the spinal canal. It may not present with any external signs and is often found incidentally during imaging. Some cases may be associated with back pain and enuresis. Skin pilonidal cysts and dermoid cysts may lead to recurrent meningitis.
