Questions
Why do newborns have intellectual disabilities or other congenital diseases? What should parents be aware of to prevent their child from being born with a congenital disease?
Answers
Intellectual disabilities in newborns are typically caused by adverse stimuli during the development of the fetus’ nervous system in the first three months of pregnancy. During this period, mothers should avoid radiation exposure and supplement folic acid and protein to reduce the risk of intellectual disabilities. Unless there is a family history of genetic issues, the problem is usually not severe.
