Question
What do I need to prepare for a pre-natal blood group serological examination?
Answer
If you have an O-negative blood type and your partner has a non-O-negative blood type, such as A-type, undergoing a pre-natal blood group serological examination during pregnancy is to assess the possibility of ABO incompatibility. This test is mainly to measure your antibody levels, particularly against your partner’s blood type (for example, if your partner is A-type, then it checks for anti-A antibodies). Generally, if your antibody titer is below 1:320, it is considered safe, and the risk of severe neonatal hemolytic disease is low. In this case, no special preparation is needed, and you can proceed with the examination directly.
