Question

I had this disease as a child and it hasn’t occurred since, but I want to ask if such diseases have a genetic component?

Answer

Epilepsy has a genetic predisposition, but the specifics can vary. The likelihood of epilepsy being inherited from a family history is generally higher than that of acquired secondary epilepsy. There is still a possibility for normal offspring to develop epilepsy, but the probability is significantly reduced. Regarding your past recurrence, if it was only once, it wouldn’t be diagnosed as epilepsy. The genetic predisposition of epilepsy can only be discussed in terms of probabilities and not as an absolute certainty.
