Question
What causes children to develop autism?
Answer
Autism, also known as autism spectrum disorder, is a developmental disorder caused by a nervous system imbalance.
- Genetic Factors: Research shows that genetic factors are a predisposing trait for autism. The concordance rate for autism in monozygotic twins is over 90%, while for dizygotic twins it is 24%. The risk of autism in siblings of autistic children is three to four times higher than in the general population, indicating that autism is related to genetic factors, but the specific genetic mechanism remains unclear. 2.Brain Disorders: Autistic children often have perinatal damage histories, abnormal EEGs, soft neurological signs, and a higher incidence of epilepsy. In some cases, CT scans of the head have revealed enlarged ventricles; MRI scans show that some children have underdeveloped cerebellar vermis, suggesting that autism is associated with functional impairments caused by central nervous system abnormalities.
- Neurobiochemical Factors: Children’s behavior is closely related to neurotransmitters. Some research data indicate that there is a decrease in the activity of 5-hydroxytryptamine and/or dopamine in the central nervous system. Accompanied by hypothalamic dysfunction, this may lead to autism.
- Cognitive Deficits Factors: Some have proposed cognitive
