Question
What Factors Contribute to Epilepsy Recurrence?
Answer
Factors that contribute to epilepsy attack can be divided into genetic and environmental categories. (1) Genetic Factors In close relatives of patients with idiopathic epilepsy, the prevalence is 2%-6%, higher than the general population’s 0.5%-1%. Idiopathic epilepsy actually includes a variety of diseases and syndromes, with different genetic forms, involving one or several genes. (2) Environmental Factors
- Age: Age affects the incidence, type of seizures, etiology, and prognosis of epilepsy. The initial onset of epilepsy often occurs before the age of 20, accounting for 60%-80% of cases.
