Question

What are the causes of facial paralysis? Can it be cured?

Answer

Facial paralysis may be caused by the following factors:

  1. The blood vessels that provide nutritional support to the facial nerves may contract due to exposure to wind and cold, leading to ischemia, edema, and compression of nerve tissue.
  2. Many patients experience a cold wind or cold water stimulus to the affected side of their head before onset, such as using a fan or coming into contact with cold water.
  3. A few patients show signs of viral infection before or after onset, often accompanied by symptoms like the common cold or otitis media.
