Question
What are the causes of facial paralysis? Can it be cured?
Answer
Facial paralysis may be caused by the following factors:
- The blood vessels that provide nutritional support to the facial nerves may contract due to exposure to wind and cold, leading to ischemia, edema, and compression of nerve tissue.
- Many patients experience a cold wind or cold water stimulus to the affected side of their head before onset, such as using a fan or coming into contact with cold water.
- A few patients show signs of viral infection before or after onset, often accompanied by symptoms like the common cold or otitis media.
