Question
What are the clinical symptoms of rickets? How is it treated?
Answer
The treatment strategies for rickets mainly include: One, General Therapy: Enhance care, increase outdoor activities, get plenty of sunlight exposure, maintain a balanced diet, actively prevent and treat complications. Two, Medication Treatment:
- Vitamin D Supplementation: In the initial stage, take 5000-10,000 units of vitamin D orally daily for one month. For patients who cannot continue oral administration, vitamin D2 can be injected intramuscularly at a dose of 400,000 units (or 300,000 units of vitamin D3), repeated 1-2 times a month. During the acute stage, take 1-2 thousand units of vitamin D orally daily for one month. For patients who cannot continue oral administration, vitamin D2 can be injected intramuscularly at a dose of 400,000 units (or 300,000 units of vitamin D3), repeated 2-3 times a month. For severe rickets or patients with complications, a high-dose rapid therapy can be adopted with intramuscular injection of vitamin D3 at 600,000 units, administered every 1-2 weeks for 2-3 times consecutively, with a total dose of 1.2 to 1.8 million units. After high-dose rapid therapy for 2-3 months, preventive doses should be given orally.
- Simultaneously provide appropriate amounts of calcium, vitamins A, B, and C for auxiliary treatment. If there is no improvement after three months of treatment, the cause or etiology should be investigated. Do not overuse vitamin D to prevent toxicity. Three, Post-Injury Management
