Question

My baby was born with an incorrect presentation and delivered via cesarean section. Is such a baby prone to epilepsy?

Answer

Babies with birth injuries are a common cause of epilepsy. Causes of birth injuries include the use of forceps, vacuum extraction, malpresentation, macrosomia, prolonged labor, advanced maternal age, and tight birth canal. Additionally, conditions such as aspiration of amniotic fluid leading to asphyxia, umbilical cord around the neck, premature placental detachment, placenta previa, prolapsed cord, and cesarean section can also increase the risk of epilepsy.
