Common symptoms of juvenile diabetes include enuresis, weight loss, decreased appetite, vomiting, and more. Children often attract parental attention due to enuresis and weight loss, and may experience multiple instances of enuresis. In addition, triggers such as infections and poor diet may lead to the onset of the disease. Approximately 40% of patients present with acute diabetic ketoacidosis, especially in very young children. Clinical symptoms include lack of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, joint and muscle pain, deep breathing, and exhaling with a distinctive odor. In severe cases, coma and loss of consciousness may occur. Due to the osmotic diuresis caused by a large amount of glucose, moderate to severe dehydration can occur, leading to sunken orbits. In severe cases, shock may even occur.
