Question

A relative’s child is having a suspected epilepsy seizure. How should we respond?

Answer

When a child is having a seizure, quickly place them on their back, avoid using a pillow, and use a tongue depressor (or toothbrush handle) wrapped in gauze placed between the upper and lower teeth to prevent tongue biting. Then, loosen the child’s clothing and turn their head to one side to allow saliva to drain out naturally, preventing it from entering the airway and causing aspiration pneumonia.
