Question

My baby is one and a half years old, and has been waking up suddenly from sleep lately, crying loudly, and then pointing to a specific place. Someone said this symptom resembles epilepsy, and I’m really scared. When the baby was one month old, there was a brain hypoxia situation, which was treated and recovered. But now I’m worried about any possible sequelae. At four or five months, an EEG and MRI were done, and the doctor said everything was fine. But recently, during sleep at night, there are sometimes hand and foot tremors or seizures. What’s going on?

Answer

This situation should first be checked for low calcium levels. If the calcium is low, it needs to be treated with regular supplementation. If not low, further EEG examination should be considered.
