Question

Does alcoholic liver disease run in the family? I’m wondering if having alcoholic liver disease would be hereditary, as we are planning to have a child. However, my husband has alcoholic liver disease, and he is relatively healthy and hasn’t been treated. I want to know if it can be transmitted to the child.

Answer

Alcoholic Liver Disease (ALD) is a liver injury disease caused by long-term excessive alcohol consumption. Abstaining from alcohol is the main measure for treating ALD. Alcoholic liver disease does not inherit, so there’s no need to worry too much! When planning to have a child, it is recommended to abstain from alcohol for three months or more to ensure the quality of the sperm.
