Question
Is neonatal renal hydrops severe?
Answer
Neonatal renal hydrops primarily occurs due to obstruction at the junction between the kidney and ureter, or between the ureter and bladder. If obstruction in neonates with mild renal hydrops can be resolved during infancy, kidney function and morphology can be fully restored to normal. 85% of neonatal renal hydrops are physiological, with only 15% requiring surgical treatment.
