Question
My son is 1 year old. He recently started having a sore throat, with quite severe coughing. Additionally, he has a persistent high fever. What should be done to treat the tonsillitis if it is very painful?
Answer
For a better treatment of tonsillitis, it is recommended to select some symptomatic anti-inflammatory medications under the guidance of a doctor. Besides systemic medication, regional treatment can also be considered, such as tonsil crypt irrigation or tonsil injection. If the child’s sore throat is particularly severe, painkillers may be suggested to alleviate symptoms. If there is a fever, choose a method of cooling based on the body temperature; for temperatures below 38.5 degrees Celsius, physical cooling can be used, while for temperatures above 38.5 degrees Celsius, oral antipyretics can be taken. In cases of recurrent acute severe episodes or complications, it is advisable to perform tonsillectomy after two weeks of acute inflammation subsiding. During this period, ensure the child gets plenty of rest and consumes more vegetables and fruits.
