Question
My child has never been tested for hepatitis B or C since birth. I am worried about being infected with them through daily contact. I want to know, if my body has a wound and bleeds onto my clothes, and the baby touches my blood with their hands, and they just finished a drip and there’s a needle hole on their hand, what if they don’t wash their hands in time and put their hand in their mouth? Can they get infected with hepatitis B or C virus this way?
Answer
Hepatitis C is a type of viral hepatitis, similar to hepatitis B, and poses a significant threat to human health. It is highly contagious, primarily transmitted through blood, sexual contact, and mother-to-child transmission, with blood transmission being the most serious. In daily contact, even trace amounts of hepatitis C patient’s blood can lead to infection. Therefore, those in close contact with hepatitis C patients need to be very cautious. It is recommended that you and your partner seek treatment as soon as possible, as there are currently no effective preventive medications, especially for hepatitis C. Given the high incidence rate of hepatitis C, it is suggested that you take your child to the hospital for a check-up.
